Description |
Ether spray bottle for anesthesia. Early female physicians worked at a time when medicine underwent several major changes. Anesthesia, introduced in 1842, became widely accepted while asepsis, as in the text by Joseph Lister, was in its infancy. It took several decades before asepsis was understood and practiced. All of the instruments displayed that have wooden handles could not be sterilized, and none of the surgical pocket sets were ever sterilized. |
